We love the easy, natural look of a wooden deck or floor. To keep it looking its best and avoid costly repairs, it’s best to give your wooden deck or floors a proper clean and oil once a year.

Give your internal wooden floors a deep clean once a year and re-coat every 2-4 years.

Our decking biodegradable cleaning solution is eco-friendly and inhibits the growth of moss and mildew, which can damage your timber decking over time. Decks are exposed to the elements, sealing your wooden planks keeps out moisture, protects against harmful UV rays and keeps your deck looking its best.

Here are our top tips to keep your deck looking its best.

  1. Start with a good sweep up. Do this often if you have nearby trees, leaves are the main culprits in causing mould and mildew to build up on your deck.
  2. Make sure to occasionally move your pot plants and outdoor furniture. This stops obvious fading marks and allows air to circulate around all areas. Remember! Avoid dragging heavy outdoor furniture across your deck, this can gouge the wood.
  3. Always raise your pots on stands or planter feet.
  4. Remove anything stuck between the boards, so that water can drain and air can circulate.
  5. Give your wooden boards a good wash with a deck solution and an outdoor broom. Never use a water blaster if untrained. For big jobs or to keep things simple, call us! We’ll have your deck looking new in no time.

Absolutely! We know how to source the wood you need, and stain or coat the new board to seamlessly blend in to your existing floor.

Usually, there’s very little to do before we restore your deck or floors. We’ll talk to you about your specific job when we visit to quote.

You may need to close your windows and move some items to prevent them getting wet or damaged.

Yes. Our cleaning solution is biodegradable and safe for use in your garden. However, we do recommend keeping pets and kids away while the solution is on your deck, but once it’s washed off, they can come and play straight away.

Absolutely. Sealing and sanding your deck properly helps maintain the integrity of the wooden board and can remove this problem completely.

Any of these can be a great option and totally depends on the look you’re going for. Be aware, each finish requires a different amount of ongoing maintenance.

Clear Oil – this is the only option that offers a clear finish. If you love the look of your wood and don’t want any change, oil is your option.

Decking Oil – Both oils and stains come in a range of colours to choose from. Decking oils are designed to soak into the wood and protect it from within. They are easy to apply and will not crack or peel. Potential downsides are that not all decking oils are suitable for exotic hardwoods. Once you have oiled your deck you cannot then stain or paint over the top. You would need to thoroughly strip the oil or allow it to weather for several years. The final colour is influenced by the timber, so may not be exactly the same as what is shown on the tin.

Staining – These coat the surface of the deck and seal the timber from the elements. They provide good coverage and come in a range of colours. As stain is a seal over the timber, it is great preventing the growth of mould or mildew. Potential downsides are peeling or cracking if not maintained. Again, you will need to strip the stain if you’d like to change colour or use a paint or oil instead.

Paint – This option is great if you have a colour in mind or want a uniform look without wood grain. A quality paint job can last longer than stain or oil as it provides stronger protection against the elements. Potential downsides are trapping moisture in the wood which can cause peeling, hiding the natural beauty and grain of the wood, and it is very hard to reverse. Once you’ve painted your deck, you can easily change paint colours but it is difficult to remove if you decide to stain or oil.

Timber floors require a protective barrier. This helps stop warping and cracking, protects the floors from scratches and spills and can enhance the look of the wood.

You can choose from a semi-gloss, semi-matte, matte or invisible finish, or a coloured stain. We’re happy to chat through your project and advise on the best option for you.

Water-based polyurethane

This tends to be the most popular finish for wooden floors. It is a clear topical coat that enhances but doesn’t change the natural look of your wooden floor. It’s an easy-care option.

Natural Oils

This is a more natural, low sheen option which can deepen the grains of the wood, leaving a gorgeous natural wooden look. As the oil seeps into the wood, rather than coating the surface. Oil sealer needs to be reapplied every 2-4 years. As always, we are here to help! Give us a ring, we can come onsite to provide advice and a free quote.
